Here is my latest project…a bit off the beaten path from my normal endeavors and slightly more of a workout…
Here is a photo journal of a wool rug I made using the traditional techniques of wet felting.
- Step 1: Laying alternately layers and layers of woolen tufts on a bamboo blind
- Step 2: Wetting the layers with warm soapy water
- Step 3: After laying a large piece of tulle over the wetted wool to help keep the tufts in place, rubbing the wetted wool repeatedly until the wool clings together and does not pull apart when pinched
- Step 4: Rolling the wool in the blind 100 times in each direction
- The rug as it begins to take shape
- Step 5: Throwing the rug down repeatedly (200 times) to finish the shrinking process
- Dry and completed rug!
